We know Jelle Denturck as the fiery frontman of DIRK., but under the name Dressed Like Boys, he shows a completely different side of himself. His self-titled debut is an intimate, personal album in which he turns down the volume and makes room for melancholy, honesty, and fragile beauty.
Denturck sings about love, friendship, freedom, and loss, but also about his own search for identity and acceptance. Musically, he harks back to the atmosphere of the 1970s—think Bowie, Elton John, or Sufjan Stevens—but with a DIY approach that includes tape recordings, Wurlitzers, strings, and homemade drum sounds. The result: warm, timeless songs that sound both fragile and grand.
